The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 4 Recap
The episode opens in the 2018 Seattle Quarantine Zone, with a bunch of soldiers having a conversation about a bunch of “voters” being harassed by their militia, and one of the soldiers asks the rest why the citizens are called voters, to which Isaac Dixon, the leader of a militia, tells him that it’s because they took away the citizens’ right to vote and someone started using this term to mock them. The revelation leaves everyone quiet, and it’s clear that Isaac feels strongly about this issue.
Just then, they stop in front of some people, and Isaac decides to talk to them alone, against everyone’s wishes. He talks to Hanrahan and then proceeds to kill the rest of the soldiers, eventually joining hands with her to be a part of the fight against the militia.

11 years later, Dina is rifling through a pharmacy searching for medicines and finds something interesting. She keeps it to herself for now, although Ellie smells something fishy. It’s their first day in Seattle, and the two women are left stumped at the destruction in front of them. Soon, they spot a building with WLF written on it, but Dina advises her not to walk into a trap. In the end, they find a way to sneak inside and spend a very sweet moment together.
We then jump to Isaac, who is mercilessly torturing Malcolm, a Seraphite. However, he doesn’t give in, and his resilience pushes Isaac to give up and shoot the guy. Elsewhere, Ellie and Dina break into a WLF building and are horrified to find several dead bodies horrifically tortured. The scene leaves Dina sick, and before long, a ton of WLF soldiers rush in to find their fellow soldiers. Now, in a panic, the women desperately try to hide but are eventually discovered. After taking down two soldiers, they rush out the window into the night with the rest shooting at them.

Escaping in the nick of time, the two realise that the soldiers are still looking for them in an abandoned train station, and then they hear it — the distant screeching of infected. Dina counts 5, but the look on their faces suggests that they are in for some serious trouble. Soon, the horde rushes out, overwhelming the soldiers and Dina and Ellie make a desperate attempt to run through the abandoned trains. It’s a close escape, and eventually Ellie lets an infected bite her hand to save Dina.
In the aftermath, Dina is left confused and is about to shoot Ellie when she reveals that she is immune. Ellie implores her to keep her eyes on her to make sure whether she is turning or not, and shoot her if she does. After some hesitation, Dina complies with her request and is left shocked when she eventually doesn’t turn. Dina then tells her that she’s pregnant, and the two then get intimate with each other in a moment of heightened emotions.

The next morning in TLOU episode 4, Dina opens up about why she initiated the kiss the previous night, telling her that the thought of losing her took away the dream that she had of sharing a life together and her sexuality. Just then, they hear WLF soldiers talking about Nora on the radio that they took earlier and immediately recognise the name. They make a plan to get to her, but are left shocked when they see the battle taking place at Lakehill. Ellie asks Dina to stay back, now that she’s pregnant, but she refuses to leave her side, promising to do it together.
The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 4 Review

An “explosive” fourth episode results in a compelling ride that will leave viewers on edge. Ellie and Dina’s relationship gets deeper, and the situation that they find themselves in is rather emotional as well as thrilling. Of course, the big revelation comes with its price, so does having sex with your best friend. However, right now, it’s all flowers and rainbows, and for a minute, we can forget about the huge issues that are about to plague their lives. Bella Ramsey and Isabela Merced have such infectious chemistry that it’s hard not to root for them.
Other than the romance, the war brewing just over the horizon, with the infected “coming to life”, is going to be a thrilling watch, especially considering how the series decides to reveal the different twists. I was completely taken by surprise in the first scene and was unprepared for the devastation that was about to happen. The action and torture sequences are brutal, and the practical effects are done so well that you can’t imagine anything but the worst in every scene. All in all, a great pace up from the last episode.
