So many people are using the “that was rude” sound on TikTok right now, but many probably have no idea it’s from a Tony-nominated Broadway musical!
“That. was. rude… that was pretty f–king rude,” actress Jennifer Simard sings in the song “Hit Me” from Death Becomes Her.
If you’ve seen the classic movie, you’ll know exactly the moment when this moment happens. Madeline Ashton has just shot her frenemy Helen Sharp in the stomach, but since they’re both dead already, no violence against each other will actually make them die.
Helen is left with a hole through her body after being shot by Madeline and then she sings the “that was rude” line.
TikTok users have been using the sound to describe the moments when people were awful to them. There are so many videos you can find right now!
Listen to the song below!
Here is the synopsis of the show: “Madeline Ashton is the most beautiful actress (just ask her) ever to grace the stage and screen. Helen Sharp is the long-suffering author (just ask her) who lives in her shadow. They have always been the best of frenemies…until Madeline steals Helen’s fiancé away. As Helen plots revenge and Madeline clings to her rapidly fading star, their world is suddenly turned upside down by Viola Van Horn, a mysterious woman with a secret that’s to die for. After one sip of Viola’s magical potion, Madeline and Helen begin a new era of life (and death) with their youth and beauty restored…and a grudge to last eternity.”
Jennifer Simard and Megan Hilty have both earned Best Actress in a Musical nominations at the Tony Awards for their work in Death Becomes Her. The show is also up for Best Musical and many other awards!
