It’s been a desert of news for Outer Banks. Beyond the big anniversary on April 15th, when we celebrated five years since Season 1 landed on Netflix, things have been very quiet. We’ve now got some bad news, however. New production listings suggest that it will take a bit longer than initially planned for cameras to begin rolling on season 5, which will be the final season.

Until now, it’s been expected that filming would begin sometime in the Spring and run through to the Fall of 2025. That was confirmed late last year with a local report with the creators of the show.

Fairly recently, a production listing suggested filming would begin in May 2025, but didn’t have an exact date. More recent listings now suggest that filming will start on June 16th, 2025, in Charleston, SC. No reason has been given for the delay. Presumably, production will continue through to at least the end of the year for a 2026 release. Of course, all filming dates are subject to change.

Netflix Stories Game Follow-up Shelved

The second piece of news we’ve actually known for about a month now, but it’s worth covering again here, as you may have missed it. As you may remember, Outer Banks got the Netflix video game treatment with Netflix Stories. Sitting alongside stories for Love is Blind and Virgin River, the Outer Banks entry was released on October 29th.

Then, at Next on Netflix 2025, Netflix confirmed that a follow-up would be released this year. As a reminder, the synopsis for the follow-up “episode” or “entry” was as follows:

“Your twin brother disappeared while searching for a mysterious ancient treasure off the coast of the Outer Banks. Shocking family secrets emerge, revealing deeper ties to the treasure than you ever imagined. In this thrilling quest, trust is scarce as you and the Pogues face danger and deception to find the treasure and your missing brother.”

But, as it has now come to pass, Netflix is discontinuing development on all future Netflix Stories, beyond Love Is Blind NYC, which has now completed its rollout. That means the Outer Banks follow-up will not be released, but the first interactive story with all its chapters will remain available.

No word on when we’ll get any news officially from Netflix themselves – TUDUM is next month, so we may get an Outer Banks nod, but until then, keep it locked here for the latest.
