Meghan candidly shared, “We both had very similar experiences – though we didn’t know each other at the time – with postpartum, and we both had preeclampsia. Postpartum preeclampsia. It’s so rare and so scary.”
The Mayo Clinic shares that it is a “rare condition that occurs when you have high blood pressure and excess protein in your urine soon after childbirth…Left untreated, postpartum preeclampsia can cause seizures and other serious complications.”
Meghan then shared how this impacted her life after giving birth.
“And you’re still trying to juggle all of these things, and the world doesn’t know what’s happening quietly. And in the quiet, you’re still trying to show up for people – mostly for your children — but those things are huge medical scares,” she said, to which Whitney added, “I mean life or death, truly.”
Meghan and her husband Prince Harry share son Archie, 5, and daughter Lilibet, 3.
The Duchess has been open about medical and mental health issues in her past. She shared she suffered from suicidal thoughts while living in the UK, and claimed the Palace wouldn’t let her seek help.
