It exposed the brutal nature of British colonial rule and sparked widespread condemnation.
The incident was investigated by the Hunter Commission, which criticised Dyer’s actions but did not hold him directly responsible. Dyer was only punished by being removed from his post and asked to retire. The British government’s action sparked outrage among Indians across the country. Revolutionaries like Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad, who were children at the time, were deeply affected by the incident.
