Grosse Pointe Garden Society Episode 9 Recap
In the present, Patty tries to smooth things over with Doug, but to no avail. Meanwhile, Birdie tortures herself over Ford not talking to her, while Brett congratulates Alice on a well-written manuscript. As the competition over the Southeastern Michigan Gardening Cup trophy gets nastier, Birdie finds herself lonely and tries to make friends with the housekeepers, but that doesn’t last too long.
The gardeners are excited about their beautiful finished product, but are left defeated when they find out about the competition’s secret weapon. However, when they find out that Marilyn brought in huge Moai statues into the garden to give them a push, they are left absolutely speechless. Meanwhile, Doug and Keith get into an argument at the former’s job, which destroys their relationship further. Back in the garden, the judges are left impressed with their gardening efforts and are getting all 10s.

Back at home, Doug plans on publishing Alice’s work bashing his mother in an effort to get revenge and hopefully never speak to them again. As the time comes around to declare the winner, the group are left heartbroken when they learn that the Bloomfield Hills Garden Guild won the award. Later, they learn it’s because of cultural appropriation for the Moai statues, and everyone decides to impeach Marilyn. It’s a unanimous decision, and everyone decides to make Catherine the new President.
Later, Alice meets Keith and they discuss Keith and Patty’s past. He asks Alice to help him bridge the gap between them and then promises to help her get published if she wants. Meanwhile, Catherine meets Marilyn to tell her about the impeachment, but realises that she’s going through much more than they can see. Catherine decides to help Marilyn instead of replacing her.

Elsewhere, Alice and Doug discuss the possibility of having children, while Birdie has dinner with her former friends and realises why they aren’t friends anymore. However, she finds out a salacious bit of gossip — Theodore and Riku are having an affair! She gets together with her friends to find out what to do, and eventually, Marilyn takes the matter to the boss. Theodore vehemently denies having an affair with Riku before the awards ceremony, but eventually his housekeeper spills the beans.
They eventually end up getting the trophy back, and Birdie promises to come back next season as well. Brett asks Alice about the essay, and she refuses to publish it, in a bid to smooth things over with his parents. Of course, Brett decides to post the article anyway and sends it over to the New York Times without Alice’s consent or knowledge.

Two months later, Doug and Brett fight over Alice at the Gardening Cup, and eventually get into a fistfight as Marilyn and Patty discuss how far Doug has come from being an artist. A tearful Alice rushes to get her in-laws, telling them that something has happened to Doug, and they eventually help break up the fight. Keith asks Doug to go home and is left uncomfortable after learning about Brett’s supposed love for Alice.
That night, Keith goes over to Brett’s store and finds him and the other women trying to get rid of the body in a shocking twist.
Grosse Pointe Garden Society Episode 9 Review

You know, I am so annoyed with Brett’s character. The more I watch Grosse Pointe Garden Society, the more I find him unbearable. Although everyone’s characters are flawed here, which is the point, there seems to be no redeeming qualities for this man who thinks he knows more about a grown woman than her. Let’s not forget that Alice is married, on top of everything. He’s annoyingly overbearing, and his charms seem manipulative, the more you watch this attitude and decisions unfold.
Other than that, I think the ninth episode is quite entertaining and even humorous. With only a handful of episodes left, we are closer to the victim’s identity than ever, and I can’t wait to see the reveal!
