Ambedkar Jayanti on 14th April is also known as Ambedkar Smran Diwas. Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar was the architect of the Indian Constitution and a social reformer. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, popularly known as Babasaheb, played a key role in drafting the Indian Constitution and fought for equality in society and the rights of Dalits. Ambedkar Jayanti is also celebrated as Equality Day and Knowledge Day.
Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar was born on 14th April 1891, he was the 14th and last child of his parents. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s father was Subedar Ramji Maloji Sakpal. He was a Subedar in the British Army. Baba Saheb was a person in the country who cannot be compared with anyone else as he has contributed to the creation of the Constitution of the country after the independence of India.
Dr. Ambedkar was the first economist of the country to receive a PhD in economics from an international university. In 1915, he received an MA degree in economics from the prestigious Columbia University of America. He drafted the Indian Constitution which was adopted by the Assembly on 26 November 1949.
First celebration in 1928 The first public celebration of Dr. Ambedkar’s birthday was organized by social activist Janardan Sadashiv Ranpise in Pune on April 14, 1928. Ambedkar was awarded a doctorate by Osmania University on 12 January 1953. And he died on 6 December 1956.
